Zwentibold, 30 (?). King of Lotharingia, 895-900. Zwentibold, the grandson of King Louis the German of East Francia and illegitimate son of disputed Holy Roman Emperor Arnulf, was granted the throne of Lotharingia by his father in 895. Louis the Child, the 6-year-old legitimate son of Arnulf, became King of East Francia upon Arnulf's death in 899, and Zwentibold attempted to use this as an opportunity to establish complete independence for his Lotharingian kingdom. However, the nobility opposed him, and he was killed in battle by Count Reginar I of Hainault near present-day Susteren.

W.G. Morrow, 63. Canadian lawyer and judge. Mr. Morrow, the son of an Edmonton lawyer, graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1939, served as a lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II, and was on a minesweeper in the D-Day invasion. As a lawyer, he argued the last Canadian case before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council at 3 Downing Street in London in 1959. As Judge of the Territorial Court of the Northwest Territories (1966-1976) he ruled in Regina v. Drybones (1967) that the Canadian Bill of Rights superseded a portion of the Indian Act of Canada. This ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1969, and remains the only case in which the Bill of Rights was held to take precedence over another act of Parliament. In 1973 he stood his ground when Prime Minister (and former law professor) Pierre Trudeau and "Justice" Minister (and former University of Saskatchewan Dean of Law) Otto Lang, along with Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (and thug) Jean Chretien illegally attempted to fire him by challenging his jurisdiction in the case of Indians attempting to file a caveat concerning Crown land in the Mackenzie River Valley that would be affected by a proposed oil pipeline. As the father of this blogger, he’s greatly missed. His autobiography, Northern Justice, was published in 1995.

Backup quarterback Dave Marler relieved injured starter Bruce Lemmerman early in the game and directed the Tiger-Cats to victory, rushing for a touchdown and handing off to Ron Rowland for another. Bernie Ruoff’s 13-yard field goal early in the 4th quarter gave Hamilton a 17-16 lead, and a single on a missed field goal later in the quarter ended the scoring. The Argonauts scored a touchdown just 2:08 into the game on an 86-yard pass from Mark Jackson to Dave Newman. Mr. Jackson connected with Peter Muller on a 10-yard scoring pass in the 3rd quarter. 45,201 fans at Exhibition Stadium witnessed a game in which the Toronto cheerleaders were sent off the field early because their halter tops weren’t halting enough, and their shorts were too cheeky.
The Eskimos scored 2 touchdowns in 12 seconds late in the second quarter to turn a 3-3 game into a 17-3 halftime lead. Neil Lumsden rushed 2 yards for a touchdown, converted by Dave Cutler, to give Edmonton a 10-3 lead at 12:29 of the 2nd quarter. One play after the kickoff, Dieter Brock’s pass was intercepted by Joe Hollimon, who returned it 17 yards for a touchdown, converted by Mr. Cutler at 12:41. Two more field goals by Mr. Cutler and a 2-yard touchdown run by Jim Germany gave the Eskimos a 30-3 lead early in the 4th quarter. The Blue Bombers scored 2 touchdowns of their own within 35 seconds late in the game. Mr. Brock passed to Robert Woods for an 8-yard touchdown and to Mike Holmes for a 2-point convert at 12:34 of the 4th quarter. A short kickoff was recovered by the Eskimos, but they fumbled the ball away on the next play, and Mr. Brock completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mr. Holmes at 13:09. A 2-point convert attempt was unsuccessful. Attendance at Winnipeg Stadium was 26,422.
