U.S. President John F. Kennedy wrote Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev to suggest the two nations co-operate in the exploration of space. Mr. Khrushchev agreed to the proposal on March 21.

U.S. Senator Edmund Muskie (Maine) won the New Hampshire primary for the Democratic party nomination for President of the United States, taking 46.4% of the vote. U.S. Senator George McGovern (South Dakota) finished second with 37% of the vote. In the Republican primary, President Richard Nixon obtained 68% of the vote to 20% for Rep. Paul McCloskey (California), a critic of Mr. Nixon’s Vietnam policy, and 11% for Rep. John Ashbrook (Ohio), a conservative critic of Nixon administration policy.
