Indra Lal Roy, 19. Indian military aviator. Lieutenant Roy served in the U.K. Royal Flying Corps, and was the only Indian air ace of World War I, recording 10 victories in just over 170 hours of flying time before being killed in a dogfight over Carvin, France.

The French seaplane Le Fregate (The Frigate Bird) left Brest for New York. The plane alighted at Horta in the Azores the next day, refuelled, and made repairs, abandoning the trip there.

Former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was charged by an Indian court with conspiracy and criminal conduct during her 1977 election campaign. She and five of her aides were accused of forcing businesses into providing 139 vehicles, without payment, for the campaign.

Rod Carew tripled home Bombo Rivera with the tying run and scored the winning run on a single by Dan Ford in the bottom of the 7th inning as the Minnesota Twins overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 before 10,063 fans at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. The run batted in was Mr. Ford's fourth of the game, after already hitting 2 home runs.

Errors by Bert Campaneris and Bump Wills led to Charlie Moore scoring in the top of the 10th inning to break a 1-1 tie as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Texas Rangers 2-1 before 30,354 fans at Arlington Stadium. The Rangers had the potential tying run on second base with 2 out in the bottom of the 10th, but pinch hitter Johnny Ellis grounded out to end the game.
