The Argos fumbled the opening kickoff on their own 45-yard line, and Winnipeg scored just 2 plays later, as Mr. Burgess completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Robert Mimbs. Trevor Kennerd converted and added a 42-yard field goal less than 3 minutes later to make the score 10-0. Lance Chomyc kicked a 21-yard field goal to cut the lead to 10-3 before Warren Hudson rushed 1 yard for a touchdown to make the score, after Mr. Kennerd’s convert, 17-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. The scoring in the last 3 quarters consisted of 2 more field goals and a single by Mr. Kennerd and a punt single by Winnipeg’s Bob Cameron. Mr. Chomyc added 2 more field goals for the Argos. Mr. Mimbs rushed 24 times for 104 yards to pass 1,000 yards for the season; he added 48 yards on 3 pass receptions. Mr. Burgess completed 22 of 35 passes for 265 yards. Toronto quarterback Rickey Foggie completed just 13 of 33 passes for 149 yards and an interception, but led his team’s ground attack with 85 yards on 8 carries. For Argo running back Lorenzo Rivers, the game was his last in the CFL. He had come into the league two years earlier as a pre-season sensation with the British Columbia Lions and had been touted as their answer to Henry "Gizmo" Williams of the Edmonton Eskimos, but Mr. Rivers was unable to duplicate his pre-season punt return heroics in regular season play.
