Paul Osbaldiston’s 6th field goal of the game, this one from 40 yards with 34 seconds remaining in regulation time, gave the Tiger-Cats their first win under Dave Beckman, who was in his second game as head coach after replacing the fired Al Bruno. Mr. Osbaldiston’s other field goals were from 14; 56; 53; 48; and 40 yards (the longest three came with a strong wind at his back in the 2nd quarter). Quarterback Mike Kerrigan scored Hamilton’s only touchdown on a 1-yard rush in the 3rd quarter. Edmonton quarterback Tracy Ham rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries and completed 19 of 36 passes for 191 yards. He led an impressive drive early in the 1st quarter and finished it with a 6-yard pass to Brian Walling for a touchdown. After that, the Eskimos seemed to abandon plays that were working, although Mr. Ham did hand off to Blake Marshall for touchdown runs of 1 yard in the 3rd quarter and 3 yards in the 4th. Mr. Marshall’s second touchdown came with 2:24 remaining and gave the Eskimos a 23-22 lead, but a 2-point convert attempt was unsuccessful. Mr. Ham marched the Eskimos to midfield in the final seconds of the game, but a short sideline pass to Craig Ellis ran out the clock, as head coach Joe Faragalli didn’t want to let Ray Macoritti attempt a 57-yard field goal. Mr. Macoritti was successful from 34 yards on his only convert attempt and added 2 field goals, but punted for only a 32.9 average in his first CFL game in his hometown. Earl Winfield of the Tiger-Cats had 92 yards on 4 pass receptions, while Mr. Ellis led the Eskimos with 90 yards on 10 receptions. Darrell Colbert caught 1 pass for 24 yards in his final game as an Eskimo before being traded to the British Columbia Lions for Larry Willis. Mr. Marshall rushed 16 times for 78 yards as the Eskimos outrushed the Tiger-Cats 227-59. Derrick McAdoo led the Hamilton ground game with 15 carries for 57 yards.
