He lived in exile in France, where he died from a brain hemorrhage on September 16, 1701 at the age of 67. His eldest son James Francis Edward Stuart became the Jacobite claimant to the thrones.

He sued the Bengals, and the 10th circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a tort--in this case, battery--may have been committed. The parties reached an out-of-court settlement. Khari Jones completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Milt Stegall with 55 seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the Blue Bombers over the Eskimos before 26,601 fans at Canad Inns Stadium. The win clinched second place in the West Division for the Blue Bombers. Mr. Jones wasn't expecting to play because of injury, but starting quarterback Pat Barnes suffered a season-ending injury on the Blue Bombers' first play from scrimmage when he threw a pass that was intercepted and returned 62 yards for a touchdown by Rob Grant. Mr. Jones completed 13 of 31 passes for 284 yards, and also connected with Mr. Stegall for a 9-yard touchdown on the last play of the 3rd quarter. Mr. Grant's touchdown gave him exactly 300 yards on interception returns for his rookie year, a league record for any player in a single season to that time. Ricky Ray started at quarterback for the Eskimos and threw a 13-yard pass to Terry Vaughn as Edmonton opened a 14-0 lead just past the halfway mark of the 1st quarter. Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood then kicked 3 straight field goals and converted Charles Roberts' 21-yard touchdown rush, giving the Blue Blombers a 16-14 lead. The Eskimos almost took the lead on the last play of the 1st half when Mr. Vaughn punted into the end zone and teammate Winston October, who was onside, almost recovered for a touchdown. The ball was instead picked up by a Winnipeg defender, and Mr. Vaughn was credited with a single to make the halftime score 16-15. After Mr. Stegall's first touchdown, another field goal by Mr. Westwood gave Winnipeg a 26-15 lead in the 4th quarter, but Jason Maas, who had relieved Mr. Ray at quarterback, threw touchdown passes to Kory Bailey and Jason Tucker, and Mr. Ray completed a pass to Mr. Tucker for a 2-point convert to give the Eskimos a 30-27 lead with 2:47 remaining. Mr. Roberts led all rushers with 107 yards on 18 carries, while teammate Mike Sellers added 80 yards on 11 carries. Edmonton's Ed Hervey led all receivers with 7 receptions for 95 yards.

Josh Beckett pitched a 5-hit shutout and the Marlins scored single runs in the 5th and 6th innings before 55,773 fans at the last World Series game ever played at the first Yankee Stadium. It was the first World Series championship for Florida manager Jack McKeon, who, at 72, became the oldest manager to win a World Series. The Marlins scored the winning run when Alex Gonzalez singled off New York starting pitcher Andy Pettitte with 2 out, advanced to second base on a single by Juan Pierre, and scored on a single by Luis Castillo. They added an unearned run in the 6th when Jeff Conine reached first base on an error by Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter, advanced to second on a base on balls to Mike Lowell, went to third when Derrek Lee bunted into a fielder's choice, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Juan Encarnacion. Mr. Pettitte pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits and 2 runs--1 earned--in taking his first loss of the series, while Mariano Rivera pitched the last 2 innings for the Yankees.
