Dick Adams returned a fumble 11 yards for a touchdown at 7:30 of the 3rd quarter and Gerry Organ kicked a convert and 3 field goals as the Rough Riders blanked the Alouettes at Lansdowne Park to clinch first place in the Eastern Football Conference. Mr. Organ's third field goal was his 31st of the season, breaking the league record for a single season that had been set by Ted Gerela of the British Columbia Lions in 1968. However, Dave Cutler of the Edmonton Eskimos, who played a 16-game season, had one game remaining in which to try to tie or break the record, while the Rough Riders' regular season was over after 14 games.

Johnny Musso rushed for 2 touchdowns in the 2nd half, scoring the winner on an 8-yard run with 3:40 remaining in the game, as the Lions edged the Blue Bombers at Winnipeg Stadium to keep their playoff hopes alive and eliminate Winnipeg from playoff contention. Bob LaRose scored the only Winnipeg touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Don Jonas with 6:58 remaining in the game as the Blue Bombers came back from a 15-4 deficit to take a 17-15 lead.

Ron Lancaster completed touchdown passes of 46 yards to Bobby Thompson and 40 yards to Tom Campana as the Roughriders eliminated the defending Grey Cup champion Tiger-Cats from playoff contention at Taylor Field in Regina. Steve Molnar, playing his first game of the season after missing the first 14 games with injury, rushed 2 yards for a Roughrider touchdown in the 3rd quarter, and Saskatchewan running back Terry Bulych rushed for TDs of 1 and 2 yards, respectively, within a 2 1/2-minute span in the last 5 minutes of the game. Hamilton quarterback Chuck Ealey completed touchdown passes of 25 yards to Garney Henley in the 1st quarter and 10 yards to Steve Conley and 45 yards to Andy Hopkins in the 4th quarter. War
The United Nations Security Council voted 11-1, with 3 abstentions, in favour of a resolution condemning the U.S. invasion of Grenada. The U.S.A. cast the only negative vote, constituting a veto of the resolution. Admiral Wesley McDonald, commander of U.S. forces in the Atlantic Ocean, said that 500 or more Cubans were still at large in Grenada and might have fled to the hills. He said that 638 Cubans and 17 Grenadians were being held prisoner, and that 36 Cuban and Grenadian fighters had been killed and 56 wounded. 700 U.S. Army Rangers began to withdraw from the country. The United States Senate voted 64-20 in favour of a resolution applying the War Powers Resolution to the invasion, meaning that U.S. troops had to be withdrawn from Grenada by December 24 unless Congress approved an extension.
