Brian DeRoo scored the other Montreal touchdown on a 9-yard pass from Johnny Evans with 37 seconds remaining in the 1st half. Among the careers ending with this game were the 14-year playing career of veteran Montreal tackle Gordon Judges, B.C. veterans Tony Proudfoot, Larry Key, Harry Holt, and Ricky Ellis, as well as B.C. head coach Vic Rapp, who was fired shortly after the season, becoming one of the few head coaches to be fired after winning his last game. In six seasons with the Lions Mr. Rapp had compiled a record of 55-42-4, but had failed to lead his team to the
Grey Cup.

Politics and government
Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as Foreign Minister, the day after Mr. Sharon had called for new elections to be held early in 2003.

Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien suffered an embarrassing defeat in the House of Commons when a number of his own Liberal Party MPs, upset at Mr. Chretien’s decision to stay in power for another 18 months, and trying to minimize his power, sided with the opposition Canadian Alliance in a vote that took away the prime minister’s ability to single-handedly appoint the chairs of parliamentary committees.
