Robert Drummond rushed 1 yard for a B.C. touchdown early in the 4th quarter, and after a pass interference penalty against the Eskimos, Chuck Levy rushed 1 yard for a 2-point convert. Backup quarterback Doug Nussmeier, who had entered the game after Mr. Allen injured a knee with 6 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, completed a 28-yard pass to Mr. Blair with 21 seconds remaining, which reduced Edmonton’s lead to 28-25 after Lui Passaglia’s convert. Mr. Passaglia’s first short kickoff was recovered by the Lions, but was called back on a penalty. A second attempt was successful, and a desperation bomb from Mr. Nussmeier was incomplete, but the Eskimos were penalized for pass interference, allowing B.C. to scrimmage from the Edmonton 1-yard line with time for one more play. Mr. Drummond rushed for what would have been the winning touchdown, but Bernard Williams was called for holding. Mr. Passaglia kicked an 18-yard field goal with no time remaining to send the game into overtime. After Mr. McCorvey’s touchdown gave the Eskimos the lead, the Lions struck back on a 28-yard pass from Mr. Nussmeier to Alfred Jackson and then took the lead on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Mr. Nussmeier to Mr. Drummond. Mark Nohra, who rushed 27 times for 170 yards, ran 15 yards for a touchdown, tying the score at 42 after Sean Fleming’s convert. Nigel Williams then scored his second touchdown of the game, but the Lions failed to respond, as Eskimo defensive back Eric Edwards knocked down Mr. Nussmeier’s third-down pass. The touchdowns for Nigel Williams were his first of the season, and his first as an Eskimo. Attendance at Commonwealth Stadium was 28,865, many of whom (but not this blogger) departed before the late-game excitement.
