American League President Ban Johnson announced that the Baltimore Orioles would move, and that the AL intended to have a team in New York in 1903, with Clark Griffith as manager. Meanwhile, on the field at Oriole Park, Mr. Griffith was the losing pitcher as the Orioles whipped the Chicago White Stockings 21-6. Jimmy Williams led the Baltimore attack with 4 singles, a double, and a triple.

The Chicago Cubs scored 14 runs in the 4th inning to take a 25-6 lead over the Philadelphia Phillies and held on for a 26-23 win at Cubs Park in Chicago. The teams combined for 51 hits, 23 walks, and 10 errors. Cubs' outfielder Marty Callaghan batted 3 times in the 4th inning, getting 2 hits and striking out.

Virgil Trucks of the Detroit Tigers pitched his second no-hitter of the season as the Tigers edged the New York Yankees 1-0 at Yankee Stadium. Mr. Trucks had won a 1-0 no hitter over the Washington Nationals at Briggs Stadium in Detroit on May 15. The win improved Mr. Trucks' record for the season to 5-15; he finished with a record fo 5-19.

Vancouver's Harry Jerome ran the 100-yard dash in a time of 9.2 seconds at the Royal Canadian Legion track meet at Empire Stadium in Vancouver, equalling the world record established by Frank Budd of the United States in 1961 and tied by fellow American Bob Hayes. Mr. Jerome became the first man to share the world record for 100 yards and 100 metres. Armin Hary of West Germany had set the world record for 100 metres of 10.0 seconds in 1960, tied by Mr. Jerome a month later.

Joey Jay picked up his 20th win of the season as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Houston Colt .45s 7-6 to move within 3 games of first place in the National League.

Of the Security Council’s other member nations, 11 voted in favour of admitting Bangladesh to the UN and 3 abstained.

Tom Wilkinson, in his first start at quarterback since joining the Eskimos several weeks earlier, completed 13 of 21 passes, including touchdowns to Bobby Taylor and Tyrone Walls, to lead the Eskimos to a rout of the Lions before 22,641 fans at Clarke Stadium. The Eskimos rushed for 222 yards-about 120 by Gene Foster—and passed for 212. The Lions broke up the shutout when backup quarterback Don Bunce connected with Larry Highbaugh for a 54-yard touchdown bomb with 1:41 remaining in the game. Canadian quarterback Dave Syme, in his first CFL game, then relieved Mr. Wilkinson and completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to George McGowan with 15 seconds remaining. Larry Ely played middle linebacker for the Lions but performed poorly in his only CFL game. B.C.’s offense, led for most of the game by quarterback Don Moorhead, totalled just 9 first downs, although producing 260 yards of net offense.
