David Kldiashvili. Georgian author and playwright. Mr. Kldiashvili was known for his humourous social satires in the 1890s and early 1900s about the degeneration of Georgia's gentry and the miseries of the peasantry, boldly exposing the antagonisms of Georgian society. He died on April 24, 1931 at the age of 68.

Ingrid Bergman, 67. Swedish actress. One of the greatest leading ladies in movie history, Miss Bergman won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Gaslight (1944) and Anastasia (1956) and for her supporting performance in Murder on the Orient Express (1974), although her most memorable role was probably in Casablanca (1942). Miss Bergman won an Emmy Award for her final performance, starring in the made-for-television movie A Woman Called Golda (1982). She died of cancer on her birthday.

John Hufnagel relieved an ineffective Joe Adams at quarterback and produced 25 points in the 2nd half to rally the Roughriders over the Eskimos before a Commonwealth Stadium record crowd of 59,723 on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. Mr. Hufnagel completed 14 of 20 passes for 196 yards and touchdowns to Dwight Edwards and Ron Robinson, and rushed 1 yard for a touchdown of his own as Saskatchewan came back from a 17-7 halftime deficit. Mr. Adams completed just 8 of 28 passes for 139 yards. Warren Moon started at quarterback for the Eskimos and completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Waddell Smith and rushed 1 yard for a touchdown before leaving in the 4th quarter with an injury. Backup Cliff Olander connected with Mr. Smith for a touchdown before throwing interceptions on three straight drives in the last 3 minutes and 13 seconds of the game. Mr. Moon also gave up 3 interceptions; 3 of the 6 Saskatchewan interceptions were by rookie defensive back Fran McDermott. Chris DeFrance led the Roughriders with pass receptions for 129 yards, while teammate Joey Walters caught 5 for 100. Mr. Smith led the Eskimos with 129 yards on 5 receptions. Edmonton’s Kevin Cole led all rushers with 11 carries for 98 yards, including one run of 38 yards in what turned out to be his last game as an Eskimo.

Ken Zachary rushed for 2 touchdowns and Tom Porras completed touchdown passes to Steve Stapler and Tony Champion as the Tiger-Cats took a 28-18 lead at halftime and held on to beat the Rough Riders before 17,447 fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Larry Mohr scored the first Ottawa touchdown on a pass from Todd Dillon, while James Hood scored the other on a pass from Joe Paopao. The Rough Riders had chances for a touchdown late in the game, but two drives deep in Hamilton territory ended in interceptions.

Kent Austin completed 24 of 33 passes for 492 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the Roughriders over the Lions before 19,345 fans at Taylor Field in Regina. Jeff Fairholm scored on passes of 48 and 76 yards, while Ray Elgaard caught a 25-yard TD pass from Mr. Austin and Don Narcisse caught a 28-yard TD pass. Saskatchewan scored 25 points in the 2nd quarter as they built a 32-3 halftime lead. Lucius Floyd rushed 13 times for 116 yards for the Roughriders and scored touchdowns of 18 and 38 yards. Jon Volpe of the Lions rushed 16 times for 75 yards and 3 touchdowns, with all of his TDs coming in the 4th quarter. Matt Clark scored a B.C. touchdown in the 3rd quarter on a 13-yard pass from Danny Barrett. Mr. Elgaard led all receivers with 207 yards on 8 receptions.
