Larry Smith caught 3 touchdown passes from George Mira as the Alouettes humiliated the Stampeders at Autostade. Backup quarterback Jimmy Jones threw a touchdown pass to John Harvey, and defensive back Ward Smith returned an interception 26 yards for another Montreal touchdown. Mark Harris, an Australian soccer player who had recently been recruited by the Alouettes to perform kickoff duties, scored the only point of his brief CFL career with a 70-yard single on the kickoff after Larry Smith's third touchdown. The game concluded a disastrous Eastern swing for the Stampeders, who had lost 37-10 in Toronto two days earlier.

Gerry Organ kicked 2 field goals, 3 singles, and a convert as the Rough Riders edged the Tiger-Cats at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The Rough Riders completed just 6 of 20 passes for 83 yards, but one of the completions was a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jerry Keeling to Rhome Nixon in the 1st quarter. Ottawa outrushed Hamilton 220 yards to 80 and held the defending Grey Cup champions without a touchdown. The Tiger-Cats' only TD came on a 119-yard interception return by Lewis Porter in the 3rd quarter; it was the second-longest interception return in CFL history, 1 yard shorter than that of Neal Beaumont of the British Columbia Lions against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on October 12, 1963.

Walt McKee's single on a missed 40-yard field goal on the last play of the game allowed the Blue Bombers to tie the Eskimos before 21,841 fans at Clarke Stadium. Edmonton defensive back Larry Highbaugh bobbled the ball in attempting to field the kick near the dead ball line and attempted to run it out of the end zone, but was tackled 1 yard short of the goal line. Winnipeg led 13-3 at halftime on touchdown passes from Don Jonas to Bob LaRose in the 1st quarter and Bob Kraemer in the 2nd quarter. Mr. Jonas missed the convert on the first TD and Mr. McKee converted the second. The Eskimos had a chance to score a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter, but were stopped on four straight plays (including an offside penalty against the Blue Bombers) from the 1-yard line. Dave Cutler kicked a 40-yard field goal in the 2nd quarter and a 52-yard FG in the 3rd quarter to make the score 13-6 before Tom Wilkinson connected with Garry Lefebvre for a 26-yard touchdown with 19 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter. Mr. Cutler converted to tie the score and added a single on a missed field goal in the 4th quarter to give the Eskimos a 14-13 lead. Edmonton split end George McGowan was the outstanding offensive player with 9 receptions for 134 yards. Winnipeg's John Bledsoe led all rushers with 81 yards on 12 carries, while teammate Jim Calip, in his first CFL game, carried 12 times for 51 yards. Backup defensive tackle John Bonk, recently acquired in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, played his first game in a Winnipeg uniform, while defensive back Grady Cavness, whose interception ended the Eskimos' attempt to score from the Winnipeg 1-yard line in the 2nd quarter, played his last game as a Blue Bomber.

Baseball
National League Championship Series
Cincinnati 2 @ New York 9 (New York led best-of-five series 2-1)

The Mets scored a run in the 1st inning, 5 in the 2nd, and another in the 3rd as they routed the Reds at Shea Stadium. Cincinnati left fielder Pete Rose barreled into New York shortstop Bud Harrelson on a play at second base and appeared to hit Mr. Harrelson with his elbow as he came up, prompting Mr. Harrelson to begin an exchange of punches. When Mr. Rose returned to left field for the next inning, he was pelted with garbage from New York fans. Several Mets players and manager Yogi Berra finally took the field to plead for the fans to desist, lest the game be forfeited. Jerry Koosman pitched a complete game for the victory, while Cincinnati starting pitcher Ross Grimsley was knocked out of the box in the 2nd inning and took the loss.
