Grey Cup @ Hamilton Amateur Athletic Association Grounds, Hamilton
Hamilton 25 Regina 6

Curt Schave's fumble on the opening kickoff put the Roughriders in poor field position, and the Tigers coasted to an easy win over the Roughriders before 4,806 fans. Mr. Schave fumbled Frank Turville's kickoff after returning the ball to the Regina 25-yard line. Jimmy Simpson recovered for Hamilton. The teams then exchanged fumbles, and the Tigers soon scored on an end run by Dinny Gardner. Hamilton led 9-0 after the 1st quarter, aided by a safety touch when a snap went over the head of Regina quarterback Jersey Jack Campbell into his end zone, and he had to kick it through the back of the end zone. In the 2nd quarter, Mr. Turville punted for a single and then Ike Sutton returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, the first on an interception return in Grey Cup history. The convert gave the Tiges a 16-0 halftime lead. A 20-yard fumble return by Mr. Simpson for a touchdown was the highlight of the 3rd quarter, and the Tigers led by 25 points after 3 quarters. The Roughriders finally broke the shutout in the 4th quarter on a 1-yard touchdown rush by Augie DeFrate. Hamilton's Brian Timmis rushed for 105 yards in the final game of his Canadian Football Hall of Fame career, and teammate Dave Sprague added 95 yards.

Grey Cup @ Ivor Wynne Stadium, Hamilton
Hamilton 13 Saskatchewan 10

Rookie Ian Sunter kicked a 34-yard field goal on the last play of regulation time to give the Tiger-Cats the win before 33,953 fans. The winning kick culminated a late drive that featured three straight pass completions from Chuck Ealey to Tony Gabriel, who hadn't yet caught a pass. The Tiger-Cats jumped to an early lead when Mr. Ealey threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Dave Fleming. He came down with the ball in the corner of the end zone, and debate still rages as to whether the foot of his that hit the ground first was in bounds. Mr. Sunter converted and kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 10-0. The kick was set up when Bob Krouse blocked a punt by Saskatchewan's Bob Pearce and John Williams recovered for Hamilton on the Saskatchewan 15-yard line. The Roughriders came back to tie the game in the 2nd quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Ron Lancaster to Tom Campana and a convert and field goal by Jack Abendschan. There was no further scoring until the winning field goal. Saskatchewan fullback George Reed led all rushers with 93 yards on 22 carries, while Hamilton flanker Garney Henley, winner of the Schenley Award as the CFL's Most Outstanding Player for 1972, led all receivers with 98 yards on 7 receptions and saw some action at defesnsive back when Lewis Porter was injured. It was the final game in the 15-year Canadian Football Hall of Fame career of Hamilton defensive tackle Angelo Mosca. Others ending their careers in this game included Hamilton defensive backs Bill Van Burkleo, Rick Shaw, and Dave Clarke, and Saskatchewan linebacker Wayne Shaw and defensive back Bob Kosid.
