Hamilton Alerts 11 Toronto Argonauts 4

Ross Craig rushed for the game's only touchdown in the 3rd quarter as the Alerts defeated the Argonauts before 5,337 fans in the upset of the decade. The game almost didn't start because there wasn't a football to play with, but a ball was finally located inside a storage room. The Alerts led 2-0 after the 1st quarter on 2 rouges by Tout Leckie. In the 2nd quarter, a Hamilton player fumbled a punt in his own end zone, and while Toronto players stood around and watched, Leeming Carr of the Alerts came out of nowhere and kicked the ball past his own dead ball line. The Argounauts were credited with a safety touch, tying the game 2-2. Mr. Leckie added 2 more singles to give the Alerts a 4-2 halftime lead. Mr. Craig's touchdown, which he converted, gave the Alerts a 10-2 lead, which became 11-2 on another rouge before the 3rd quarter was over. Mr. Clarke of the Argonauts scored 2 rouges in the 4th quarter, but that was as close as Toronto got. Liz Marriott was the winning coach over Jack Newton. It was the last game for star Toronto halfback Smirle Lawson, who retired to pursue a medical career. It was also the last game played by the Hamilton Alerts; they were under suspension by the Ontario Rugby Football Union, effective the end of the season, for having refused to send their regular players to play the Toronto Rugby & Athletic Association in the last regular season game two weeks earlier, instead opting to play the Hamilton Tigers for the city championship of Hamilton on the same day. A team of "scrubs" had played Toronto R&AA, losing 39-7. The Alerts disbanded, and a number of their players, including Mr. Craig, joined the Tigers.
