Hamilton 9 @ Toronto Rugby & Athletic Association 7

Toronto protested the game after a touchdown of theirs was called back when the referee had blown his whistle because of a penalty against the Alerts. The R&AA protested that the referee had no right to stop the play when the team being penalized was not in possession of the ball, but should have waited until the ball was dead, in which case the non-offending team would have the option of a free kick from the point of the foul or accepting any score made. On November 19, the protest was upheld, and the game was ordered to be replayed on November 23.

Labour
A strike of National Football League players that had begun after the second week of the regular season ended with a tentative agreement between players and owners. A minimum wage scale ranging from $30,000 for a rookie to $200,000 for a player in his 18th season was established, with the figures to rise in subsequent years. The players also obtained increased playoff money, a severance-pay clause, and career-adjustment bonuses payable in 1982; but the players failed to get a fixed percentage of television revenues or a union-controlled salary fund. The New York Times of November 17 estimated that the strike had cost owners, players, networks, cities, and businesses nearly $450 million. The regular season, now reduced to 9 games from the usual 16, was to resume on November 21.
