Hamilton Tigers 9 @ University of Toronto 3
The Tigers capitalized on a fumble by punt returner Johnny Copp to score the game's only touchdown as they beat the Blue and White before 10,000 fans at Varsity Stadium. Frank Turville punted for 3 singles in the 1st quarter to give Hamilton a 3-0 lead. U of T's Jack Sinclair punted for singles in each of the 2nd and 3rd quarters to reduce the Hamilton lead to 3-2 before Mr. Copp fumbled a punt at his own 15-yard line with less than 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, and Jimmy Simpson recovered for the Tigers. It took five plays before Dave Sprague rushed for the touchdown, converted by Ray Boadway to make the score 9-2. Mr. Sinclair punted for another single in the 4th quarter to reduce the U of T deficit to 9-3. It was a very evenly-played game and the last time that a university team came this close to getting into the Grey Cup game.

Sarnia Imperials 15 @ Toronto Argonauts 34
Johnny Fedosoff, Royal Copeland, Al Bruno, Doug Smylie, Uly Curtis, and Zeke O'Connor scored touchdowns for the IRFU champion Argonauts as they beat the ORFU champion Imperials before 8,900 fans on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Stadium to advance to the Grey Cup against the Edmonton Eskimos three days hence. Mr. Fedosoff rushed 3 yards or the game's first touchdown in the 1st quarter, and Mr. Copeland scored shortly after. Red Ettinger converted both TDs as Toronto took a 12-0 lead afer 1 quarter. Joe Krol punted for a single to make the score 13-0, but Dutch Davey kicked a field goal for the Imperials to reduce their deficit to 13-3 at halftime. The Argonauts scored the only points of the 3rd quarter on a 13-yard pass from quarterback Nobby Wirkowski to end Al Bruno. Mr. Ettinger missed the convert, leaving Toronto ahead 18-3 after 3 quarters. Al Farris of the Imperials caught a pass that had already been bobbled by teammate Jim Burr and Toronto's Ed Soergel, catching the ball at the Toronto 2-yard line before it hit the ground on the last play of the 3rd quarter. Corky Duchene rushed for Sarnia's first touchdown on the first play of the 4th quarter, and Mr. Davey converted to make the score 18-9. Doug Smylie promptly returned the kickoff 95 yards for a Toronto touchdown; Mr. Ettinger missed the convert, and the Argonauts led 23-9. Uly Curtis then rushed 2 yards for a Toronto touchdown; Mr. Ettinger missed his third straight convert, and the Argonauts led 28-9. They made it 34-9 when Mr. Wirkowski sonnected with Mr. O'Connor for a 5-yard touchdown, converted by Mr. Ettinger. The Imperials closed the scoring with the game's most spectacular play: Quarterback George Curtis handed off to Archie McAffer on a reverse, who then handed it to Mr. Duchene going the other way, who then handed the ball back to Mr. Curtis. Mr. Curtis then passed to Jack Glendenning for a 66-yard touchdown, converted by Mr. Davey. Mr. Wirkowski completed 12 of 20 passes for 201 yards, while George Curtis and Red McKelvie, who shared the Sarnia quarterbacking duties, combined to complete 8 of 17 for 125 yards.

Ottawa 8 @ Hamilton 23 (Hamilton won 2-game total points series 30-27)
After scoring a single point on a missed 35-yard field goal in the 1st quarter, rookie Ian Sunter kicked field goals of 45, 22, 42, 14, and 44 yards as the Tiger-Cats completed a comeback from a deficit that had once been as high as 19 points, defeating the Rough Riders before 30,721 fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium and advancing to the Grey Cup at home against the Saskatchewan Roughriders one week hence. Mr. Sunter also converted the game's only touchdown, scored by Hamilton defensive back Lewis Porter, when he recovered a fumble by Ottawa running back Alan Thompson and returned it 25 yards early in the 2nd quarter; the convert made the score 8-0 on the game, reducing Ottawa's lead to 19-15 in the series. Mr. Sunter then kicked 4 straight field goals to give the Tiger-Cats a 20-0 halftime lead and a 27-20 lead in the series. Gerry Organ kicked 2 field goals of 52 and 35 yards in the 3rd quarter; Ottawa's other points came when Hamilton punter Bill Van Burkleo conceded a safety touch with 14 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, making the score 20-8 in the game and 27-27 in the series. Mr. Organ's first field goal was the longest FG in the CFL in 1972. The wind blew from 25-40 miles per hour, and the Tiger-Cats had the advantage of the wind behind them in the 4th quarter. Hamilton running back Dave Buchanan, who had gained just 2 yards in the first game of the finals, rushed 27 times for 109 yards, including a 24-yard run to set up the winning field goal. Quarterback Chuck Ealey threw just 12 passes, completing 4 for 49 yards; Mr. Porter saw some action as a flanker, making his first pass reception of the season for a 32-yard gain. Regular flanker Garney Henley, meanwhile, moved into the defensive backfield in the last few minutes of the game, and made an interception--his first of the year--off Ottawa quarterback Rick Cassata to help preserve the victory. The Tiger-Cats had previously overcome sizeable deificits to win Eastern final series against the Rough Riders in 1959 and 1964.
