Mr. Sutherin converted to give the Tiger-Cats a 14-7 halftime lead. Mr. Sutherin scored a single on the 2nd-half kickoff to make the score 15-7, but Montreal came back with a 28-yard field goal by Mr. Oliver and a 6-yard touchdown rush by George Dixon on a third-down gamble, converted by Mr. Oliver, to give the Alouettes the lead after 3 quarters. Mr. Kuntz rushed 19 times for 102 yards. Mr. Dixon gained 85 yards on 18 carries, while backfield mate Don Clark left with an injury in the 2nd quarter, shortly after being tackled by Hamilton's Garney Henley after a 67-yard run, which was then followed by an interception by Hamilton's Ralph Goldston. Montreal quarterback Sandy Stephens completed 12 of 20 passes and rushed 5 times for 54 yards.

Halfback Harvey Wylie threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Larry Robinson in the 4th quarter to provide the winning margin as the Stampeders upset the Blue Bombers before 17,230 fans at McMahon Stadium. Mr. Robinson converted and scored field goals in each of the first 2 quarters. Earl Lunsford rushed 1 yard for Calgary's other touchdown in the 3rd quarter, which was unconverted. Jim Furlong scored the other Calgary point on a punt single late in the game. Charlie Shepard rushed for 3- and 1-yard touchdowns for the Blue Bombers. His first, in the 1st quarter, was set up when Dick Thornton intercepted an Eagle Day pass at the Winnipeg 53-yard line and returned it 40 yards to the Calgary 17. Mr. Shepard scored, Gerry James converted, and the Blue Bombers led 7-3. It was 7-6 early in the 3rd quarter when Norm Rauhaus intercepted one of Mr. Day's passes and returned it 51 yards to the Calgary 1-yard line to set up Mr. Shepard's second touchdown. Mr. James converted to make the score 14-6 before Mr. Lunsford scored to reduce the Winnipeg lead to 14-12 after 3 quarters.

The Alouettes scored 2 touchdowns off turnovers in the 1st quarter and coasted to victory over the Argonauts before 57,125 fans at Olympic Stadium. 6 minutes after the Montreal defense held the Argonauts at the Alouette 2-yard line and forced them to settle for a 9-yard field goal by Noel Prefontaine to open the scoring, Reggie Durden recovered a fumble by Toronto receiver Demetris Bendross and returned it 27 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Exactly 1 minute later, Danny Derricott intercepted a Jim Ballard pass and returned it 35 yards for another TD. Terry Baker converted to give the Alouettes a 14-3 lead. Mr. Ballard had entered the game in relief of starting Toronto quarterback Reggie Slack, who had suffered a leg injury on the Argonauts’ second offensive series. Mr. Slack then returned, but suffered a concussion after just two plays. Third-string quarterback Marcus Brady then played much of the game before Mr. Ballard re-entered in the 4th quarter. The Alouettes extended the lead to 21-3 in the 2nd quarter on a 1-yard TD rush by Lawrence Phillips, converted by Mr. Baker. The kickers accounted for the remaining scoring until Mr. Ballard threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Ted Alford with 2:52 remaining in regulation time. A 2-point convert attempt was unsuccessful, and the Argonauts trailed 28-18. The Alouettes finished the scoring on a 1-yard touchdown rush by fullback Bruno Heppell, converted by
Mr. Baker with 54 seconds left. Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo completed 17 of 26 passes, but for just 142 yards. The three Toronto quarterbacks combined to complete 20 of 32 passes for 224 yards.

John Avery rushed 17 times for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Eskimos built a 32-6 lead and then barely hung on to beat the Blue Bombers before 34,322 fans—including this blogger—at Commonwealth Stadium. Edmonton kicker Sean Fleming opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 20-yard field goal, and converted Mr. Avery’s 8-yard touchdown run a few minutes later. A punt single by Mr. Fleming gave the Eskimos an 11-0 lead after 1 quarter. Troy Westwood got the Blue Bombers on the scoreboard with a 22-yard field goal early in the 2nd quarter, but the Eskimos responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Ray to Terry Vaughn. Another field goal by Mr. Westwood and a single and field goal by Sean Fleming left the Eskimos ahead 22-6 at halftime. Mr. Avery rushed 1 yard for his second TD early in the 3rd quarter. Mr. Fleming converted and kicked another field goal before Winnipeg fullback Mike Sellers scored his team’s first touchdown with 45 seconds remaining in the quarter. Mr. Westwood’s convert made the score 32-13. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Mr. Fleming was in punt formation when Roger Reinson’s snap went over his head and landed at the Edmonton 20-yard line. Mr. Fleming tried to kick the ball through his end zone for a safety touch, but he just succeeded in kicking it into the end zone, where Winnipeg receiver Geoff Drover fell on it for a touchdown. Mr. Westwood converted and kicked a 39-yard field goal with 7:58 remaining to reduce the Eskimos’ lead to 32-23. The Blue Bombers cut the lead to 32-30 when Chad Plummer, in his first game as a Blue Bomber, caught a 10-yard pass from Khari Jones for a touchdown, converted by Mr. Westwood, with 2:44 left in regulation time. The Eskimos moved the ball deep into Winnipeg territory, but Mr. Fleming somehow missed an 11-yard field goal, getting a single point with 30 seconds remaining. Mr. Ray completed 19 of 34 passes for 269 yards, while linebacker Terry Ray completed a pass to Mike Bradley on a fake punt for 31 yards. Mr. Jones completed 16 of 35 passes for 202 yards. Star Winnipeg running back Charles Roberts carried once for minus-1 yard, was injured on the play, and didn’t return. Mr. Avery left with a hamstring injury in the 4th quarter and didn’t return. Ed Hervey of the Eskimos led all receivers with 87 yards on 5 receptions, while Mr. Plummer led the Blue Bombers with 5 catches for 67 yards. Winnipeg punter Bob Cameron averaged just 38 yards on 5 punts in the last game of his 23-year Canadian Football Hall of Fame career, all with the Blue Bombers, that had begun at Commonwealth Stadium on July 9, 1980.
