It was the Montreal club's first regular season game in Regina.

Don Sweet kicked a 51-yard field goal with 32 seconds remaining in the game to give the Concordes their win over the Roughriders before 14,111 fans at Olympic Stadium. Montreal quarterback Luc Tousignant completed just 12 of 35 passes for 158 yards, but one of his completions was to Lester Brown for a 43-yard touchdown in the 1st quarter. Mr. Tousignant led all rushers with 9 carries for 83 yards. Quarterback John Hufnagel rushed 14 yards for the Roughriders’ only touchdown early in the 2nd quarter.

Warren Moon passed for 3 touchdowns and rushed for 3 more as the Eskimos scored 5 touchdowns in the 2nd half to beat the Rough Riders before 54,622 fans at Commonwealth Stadium. Mr. Moon completed just 16 of 36 passes, but made the big plays when he had to, completing touchdown passes to Brian Fryer, Brian Kelly, and Tom Scott. Angelo Santucci rushed 1 yard for the final Edmonton touchdown on a play that was set up by one of the greatest catches this blogger has ever seen. Backup quarterback Cliff Olander threw a pass toward Mike Levenseller, who reached over Ottawa defensive back Carl Brazley, tipped the ball into the air with one hand, and caught it at the 1-yard line as he was turning and falling. It turned out to be Mr. Levenseller’s last catch as an Eskimo, as he spent the remainder of the season on the reserve list. Jeff Avery scored the Rough Riders’ touchdown on a 22-yard pass from Chris Isaac just 3:44 into the game. Ottawa’s Skip Walker led all rushers with 15 carries for 105 yards. Sean Kehoe led the Eskimos with 70 yards on just 4 carries, while Jim Germany, playing his first game since breaking his ankle in a pre-season game on June 10, carried 8 times for 61 yards. Defensive back Dale Getty, son of former Eskimo quarterback Don Getty, played for the Rough Riders, and recovered an Edmonton fumble. Miles Gorrell, recently acquired from the Calgary Stampeders, played his first game as a Rough Rider at offensive tackle, while another former Stampeder, Larry James, played his only game for Ottawa at wide receiver and failed to catch a pass. This blogger wore a bag on his head for most of the game, since the Eskimos entered the game in last place in the West Division after losing 5 of their previous 6 games.

Baseball
The Kansas City Royals came back from a 7-4 deficit to score 14 runs over the last 5 innings in an 18-7 win over the Minnesota Twins at Royals Stadium. Both men scored, and Mr. Felton was charged with the loss, dropping his career major league record to 0-16, which is where it ended up.
