Leo Lewis scored the Blue Bombers' first touchdown on a 63-yard pass from Kenny Ploen in the 1st quarter, while linebacker Dave Burkholder scored the other Winnipeg touchdown in the 2nd quarter when defensive back Dick Thornton blocked a lateral from Calgary quarterback Eagle Day at the Stampeder 20-yard line, and Mr. Burkholder was there to pick up the ball. Both Mr. Ploen and backup Hal Ledyard left with injuries, so Mr. Thornton ended the game as the Winnipeg quarterback, and drove the team to the Calgary 35-yard line, where he lost a fumble on the last play.
