Football
CFL
Edmonton (7-3) 31 @ Toronto (1-9) 30

Dave Cutler kicked a 40-yard field goal with 1:39 remaining in the game to provide the winning margin as the Eskimos won in Toronto for the first time in 10 years. Playing in front of the usual capacity crowd of 33,135 at CNE Stadium, the Argonauts led 18-7 at halftime on touchdown passes from Joe Theismann to Eric Allen and Mike Eben. For Mr. Theismann, it was his first game since breaking his leg in the season opener. He reinjured the leg in the 3rd quarter, and was relieved by Wally Gabler. Calvin Harrell of the Eskimos rushed 1 yard for his first CFL touchdown in the 1st quarter, and Tom Wilkinson passed 36 yards to Tyrone Walls in the 3rd quarter for a touchdown that reduced the deficit to 18-14. A single by Ivan MacMillan and a converted touchdown by Bill Symons early in the 4th quarter increased Toronto’s lead to 26-14, but Mr. Wilkinson completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to George McGowan. After a field goal by Mr. MacMillan, Mr. Wilkinson connected with Bobby Taylor for a 27-yard touchdown, reducing the Argonauts’ lead to 29-28 with 5:59 remaining. After Mr. Cutler gave the Eskimos the lead, Mr. Gabler marched the Argonauts to within field goal range, but Edmonton defensive back Harry Abofs made an interception at his own 29-yard line. The Eskimos were forced to punt, and Mr. MacMillan attempted a 63-yard field goal on the last play. It didn’t come close to succeeding, and went for a single point.
