The Tiger-Cats trailed 24-13 in the 3rd quarter before 24,591 fans at Civic Stadium when Hamilton coach Jim Trimble benched starting quarterback Joe Zuger and replaced him with Frank Cosentino, and Mr. Cosentino promptly completed a 71-yard touchdown pass to Dick Easterly. In the 4th quarter, Mr. Cosentino connected with Garney Henley for a 39-yard TD to provide the winning margin. Hamilton had scored touchdowns in each of the first 2 quarters on touchdown passes from Mr. Zuger of 3 yards to Ken Kilrea and 24 yards to Mr. Henley. Dave Mann scored the first Toronto touchdown on a pass from halfback Dick Shatto. Quarterback Tobin Rote threw a TD pass to Joe Hernandez, and Ron Morris intercepted a pass from Mr. Zuger and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown, setting the stage for Mr. Cosentino's entrance. Hamilton's Bobby Kuntz rushed 15 times for 116 yards, while former Argonaut fullback C.R. Roberts had a poor game in his debut as a Tiger-Cat.

Dave Buchanan rushed 22 times for 161 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown, as the Tiger-Cats defeated the Blue Bombers before 33,946 fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Dave Fleming rushed 5 yards for the other touchdown. Mack Herron led the Winnipeg ground game with 10 carries for 74 yards.
Jesse Mims rushed 3 yards for a touchdown with 25 seconds remaining in the game to give the Stampeders their win over the Lions before 21,284 fans at Empire Stadium in Vancouver. The winning touchdown finished a drive that was prolonged when B.C. defensive back Brian Donnelly deflected a pass from Calgary quarterback Jerry Keeling on a third down-and-10 yards-to-go play from the Stampeder 53-yard line, only to have the ball be caught by Gerry Shaw for a first down as he was lying on his back. Mr. Shaw caught a pass from Mr. Keeling for the other Calgary touchdown. Jim Evenson rushed 2 yards for the Lions' only touchdown. Ted Gerela converted and added 3 field goals. The Lions moved to the Stampeder 36-yard line with 5 seconds left, but Mr. Gerela was wide on a 43-yard field goal attempt, and Mr. Mims conceded a single point to end the game.
Baseball
World Series
Oakland Athletics 1 @ Cincinnati Reds 8 (Best-of-seven series tied 3-3)
The Reds broke the game open with 5 runs in the 7th inning before 52,737 fans at Riverfront Stadium. Ross Grimsley, who pitched 1 inning after releiving starting pitcher Gary Nolan with 2 out in the 5th, was the winning pitcher, while Vida Blue, who started and pitched 5 2/3 innings, took the loss. For Joe Horlen, the fourth pitcher used by the Athletics in the game, it was his only World Series appearance and his last appearance in a major league game. The former Chicago White Sox ace faced 8 batters and gave up 2 hits, 2 bases on balls, and an earned run in 1 1/3 innings. The last batter he faced was Joe Morgan, who grounded to first baseman Mike Epstein, who then threw to Mr. Horlen for the putout at first base. It was also the final major league game for Oakland's Don Mincher, who ended his career in a strange manner. After coming to bat as a pinch hitter in game 4 and hitting a single to drive in the tying run in the 9th inning, he was announced as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning of game 5, only to be replaced by Angel Mangual when the Reds changed pitchers. In game 6, the same thing happened: Mr. Mincher was announced as a pinch hitter for pitcher Bob Locker in the top of the 7th, and when Cincinnati changed pitchers, Dave Duncan then batted for Mr. Mincher. Mr. Mincher was thus credited with 3 games played in the series, but was only announced into the game in the last 2.

Bob Forsch, who relieved starting pitcher Greg Mathews with 2 out in the 4th inning, pitched 2 2/3 innings and was credited with the win. Frank Viola lasted just 3 1/3 innings in taking the loss.
